In keeping with the theme of moms supporting moms from this week’s LuLaRoe giveaway, I wanted to reintroduce you to super talented mom, Dawn from a lovely shade of jade. Aside from the original post images, I’ve included a few others that she has done for my family. If you are local to NJ, please check her out!
When I was pregnant with my daughter, I decided I was going to invest in a nice camera. I wanted to capture every little smile, roll, walk and giggle. We have so many pictures that have frozen special moments in our everyday life. I love taking pictures of my little girl, but what I discovered aside from a new appreciation for photography, was that photographing children is tough! From the short attention spans to the inability to follow directions easily, it takes a very special and talented person to create amazing still moments. For special occasions, when I know I am not skilled enough in photography to create these moments, I turn to a professional.
Finding a photographer is difficult as there are many factors to consider. You look for someone who shares the vision you have in mind, connects with your child enough to keep his/her attention for as long as possible and also brings his/her own creative eye into the mix. Luckily for me, I found the perfect match in the talented up-and-comer Dawn Curto, owner of a lovely shade of Jade (how cute is that name!).
I approached Dawn to take photos of my daughter for our Christmas cards. I had a general idea of the theme I wanted and shared it with Dawn. She gave some suggestions for locations and we picked the spot and the day. When the day came, it was frigid outside. This set off a bit of panic as my daughter is quite the diva (hate to admit it!). I was worried she would complain about the cold and listen even less than usual. But we surged forward with our shoot. Dawn was extremely laid back which is essential for working with children. She had no problem getting down on the ground, engaging with my daughter and keeping the shoot moving to both follow the natural light and maintain a 3 year olds attention. By the end of the shoot, we were all cold, but happy. My daughter was happy because she got her lollipop and mommy was happy for the smooth outing. A few days later, I received a few gorgeously edited photos as a preview. Overall, the experience with Dawn was a true pleasure. If you are looking for family photos, check her out! You will not be disappointed!
