My 3 year old loves the movie Enchanted. In it, there is a scene where they talk about going on a date. After seeing it a few times, she asked if I wanted to go on a date with her. So last October, we went on our first official Mother Daughter date.
At first it felt a bit strange to call it something special as we spend most of our days together…..everyday. But then I decided that I should call it something special simply because my daughter truly believed it WAS special. And after all, I wanted to cherish the time when she would actually want to go on a date with ME and not her friends or eventually *gulp* some boy! Not a play date or an outing with other moms and their daughters. But just me. That afternoon the two of us went to watch a movie in the theater. Our very first date.
Since then, we try to have a date just often enough to make it special (about once a month). Here’s our date list so far! Share yours in the comments!
Ice Skating (planning on roller skating now that the weather is warming up)
Tea party in fancy dresses
Spa day at home
Pajama party (stay overnight at a hotel!)
Masterpiece theater is the date night I have planned for next month. My dramatic daughter will get a kick out of writing a story together and then acting it out together.
I hope that we will continue our date nights together even as she gets older. I think it’s a great way to continue to bond. Now this reminds me that I need to have my own date night with my mom! It’s overdue! Love you, Mom!
