Tomorrow morning, my mother and I will be taking my daughter to Walt Disney World for a girls getaway! This will be her 2nd trip to the Happiest Place on Earth, but it almost feels like the first!
I grew up going to Disney World. I have countless memories with my family and friends. I am a true Disney fanatic. The feeling you get when you experience Disney is unlike anything else. It’s funny. Many other adults, specifically parents, always discuss about how taxing and stressful a Disney vacation is. They tell me about how they would rather spend that type of money on a vacation they actually enjoy versus one that only their children will. They talk about how a younger child won’t have any memory of the trip, so it’s best to wait until they are older. But these sentiments couldn’t be further than my views on a Disney vacation.
When I enter the Magic Kingdom, walk down Main Street, let my ears fill with music and spot Cinderella castle, I forget the cost, the long day ahead and any other stress that may be unrelated. I let the magic of my childhood, the magic of the place flood my senses and do something that is impossible to do any other place on the planet…..turn back time. I see Prince Charming Regal Carousel and I’m 6 again, wearing my Mouseketeer hat that matched my older brother’s. I see Splash Mountain and I remember riding on it with my mom when her hat flew off at the big splashdown. The Magic Carpets of Aladdin brings me back to when I was 25 and taking a girls trip with an old friend. I also see all the new and exciting attractions and wonder if my daughter is making her own memory list already!
There were already so many wonderful memories from her first trip, which we took for her 3rd birthday with both my parents and my husband. Tomorrow it is ladies only! So while we just visited 9 months ago, this will be a whole different kind of trip. It’s also different this time since she has no clue we are going! Back in May, we did a month’s worth of Disney activities and a countdown until the big day. She’s constantly asking to go back and it’s definitely been a challenge to keep it a secret! But it will all be worth it! Can’t wait to see her reaction as we pull into the airport instead of her grandparents’ house!
Let the countdown begin! Don’t forget to follow Mommy’s New Groove on Instagram to catch glimpses of our everyday Disney moments!
