The season of beers and BBQ is upon us. I love my BBQ, but what does a non beer drinker drink when most of the beverage tubs are filled with beer?
I’ve always relied on sangrias and blended frozen concoctions, but sometimes I just don’t feel like or have the time to whip something up. I’m not one for the Twisted Teas or Mike’s Hard (although I used to be). I’m a cider drinker and thankfully, you can now find a large selection at any given liquor store. These had been my staple for the past few summers.
When I heard about the movement of the hard root beers last year, I found it interesting…..well as interesting as it could be to someone who doesn’t like root beer. (Are you judging yet? No beer AND no root beer!). But when the rise of hard sodas came about, all you had to do was point me to where I could find some!
With the weather being as nice as its been and al fresco dining already upon us, I decided to grab some of Henry’s Hard Orange Soda for the first time and give it a go!
The taste is exactly as you would expect. An hard-ish version of the brightly colored, sugary effervescent beverage. It’s got a slightly lower alcohol content than my go-to cider (I prefer Woodchuck cider at 5% ABV vs Henry’s 4.2%). If you’re a fan of orange soda, you’ll love this adult version.
While I look forward to putting some of these in my beverage tub at the next get together, what I really want to do is scoop some French vanilla ice cream and marry it with this bad boy and really live up some sugary childhood nostalgia…..just a little more grown up, reflecting the person ready to devour it.
