Oh Mom! When will you take our own advice?!
Yesterday was my daughter’s 5th birthday party. I spent the days leading up to the big event planning, prepping food, cleaning and every other stressful thing you can imagine when throwing a large party at your home. The night before the party, I was feeling pretty good.
Then I woke up the day of the party and looked out the window. Rain? I obsessively looked at the weather report everyday for a week and it said 0% chance of rain. ZERO! All throughout the morning, I was holding the hope that the rain would let up. As the arrival of our guests drew nearer, I had to make a call. I had to go to plan B.
So as people came and I continued to get things ready, I seemed to miss out. The event was a whirlwind of greetings and cleaning and taking out more food and drink. Sigh….the curse of the hostess, I guess. But still, I made one huge error. I never took my camera out. I took no pictures. Not one.
Despite my previous thoughts on captured memories and vowing to get better at it, it was a big mom fail! However, that’s what awesome friends are for! They captured the day I seemed to have missed out on! And while it will never replace the live moments I didn’t get to experience, it was great I got to see some wonderful memories my daughter will always have with her sweet friends….all thanks to my sweet friends!
But lesson learned. No matter how derailed the day may get, take out the camera ahead of time and take a moment to snap a few pictures. No one will go hungry if you take a few minutes to capture memories instead of refilling the coconut shrimp platter!

I know the feeling. The majority of my daughter’s birthday party were taken by other people and stolen from me at a later date. 😉 Absolutely terrible.
Thank goodness for friends with phones and cameras, right?!
I seriously do that almost every time. My sister and I have an unspoken agreement; she takes pictures of all my events and I run them. I’m just in trouble if she can’t come for some reason! I need to do better too!!
