I first started wearing a heart rate monitor for workouts when I was in college, way before the popularity of everyday activity trackers. My first monitor was a Polar with a chest strap that I would wear during all of my cardio workouts. I found it completely satisfying to track and monitor my heart rate throughout the workout, knowing when to push a bit harder and when to pull back effectively.
Since then, I have gone through various heart rate monitors, both with and without chest straps. Some I’ve loved (Polar FT4) and some I’ve loathed (Apple Watch). I currently use the Adidas Fit Smart for my cardio workouts. It’s not as awesome as I’d hoped, but I’ve found it to be the best for the purpose of a strapless heart monitor.
I never thought I would want an everyday activity tracker, as I’ve always only been interested in monitoring my heart rate during work outs. However, when I saw the Swarovski Activity Crystal, I wanted one! When I saw it in the store, I didn’t even know what it was. It looked exactly like the Slake bracelet I owned, except for a large crystal in the center.
The tracker device is in the crystal and tracks steps and sleep as well as tells time. It is water resistant and uses a watch battery versus a charger like most trackers. All of the data syncs with your smartphone via the Misfit app. I would say based on the reviews from family and friends on their various activity trackers, the Swarovski Activity Crystal is extremely similar, with one key difference. It looks more like jewelry vs a tracking bracelet.
I bought the pink slake version, which also comes with a black active band. I found the slake is a little too loose, but still works great. I use the active band more since it feels more comfortable and it’s a little more understated for day to day use. I do own a black slake bracelet that I have layered with it and am pleased with the appearance. To switch the bands or to clean the crystal, it’s very simple. You simply pop the crystal out the back.
I still use my Adidas during my workouts as the Swavorski one doesn’t measure heart rate. In my opinion, this is the main flaw with it. Other than that, I am pleased with my purchase and have worn it everyday since getting it. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for an activity tracker with just that extra bit of fabulousness!
