You may remember I mentioned that my mom squad is breaking up. Well today is the day that one of my daughter’s best friends, along with her wonderful mom who is a member of my mom tribe, boarded a plane with their one way tickets.
Ever since my friend mentioned her family was moving, we all knew our time with them was going to fly by. Well, no matter how prepared we were, the day just crept up on us. I’ve had people I’ve known move away or go in and out of my life at various stages. This time feels a bit different.
Most of the people I have known that moved away had either done so when I was too young to remember in great detail or it was an anticipated closing of one of life’s chapters. Those who have travelled in and out of my life, a regrettable larger number than I would like, it happened over time where the relationship had seemed to run its destined course.
However, this time, this relationship, was just beginning. As was the relationship between our children. Though we had only known each other for a short time, we covered all the bases as if we’d been friends for a lifetime before. I had envisioned our daughters growing up together, continuing with traditions we had hoped to start. Holidays, birthdays and nights out.
My daughter doesn’t fully understand what it means that her friend is moving. She knows she will miss seeing her every week at dance class. She knows that we won’t meet up with them randomly during the week. But doesn’t understand the distance that will now be present.
While things won’t be the same without them here, it’s not goodbye. So to my friend, go do great things! Don’t forget us! And we will see you soon!
